Williams first to unveil 2017 car – the FW40

In a surprise move, Williams became the first team to show off their new 2017 car albeit in digital form, the FW40 this morning in a short video published via Autosport and Motorsport.com.

Eagerly awaited, the first car to be unveiled with the new 2017 regulations gives an insight in to the themes teams are using as we head to the first winter test in Barcelona in just 10 days time. The official launch of the new car will be on Saturday 25th February, which will see each team launch their new car over a period of seven days.

As detailed in the new regulations, the car is wider, complete with a swept back front and rear wing and larger tyres aimed at increasing mechanical grip to reduce lap times by up to five seconds. Increased drag though from the larger wings means that we are unlikely to see the highest top speeds from last season, although the corning speeds will be substantially increased.
