Williams continue restructuring, appointing De Beer as Aero Chief

Williams have announced Dirk De Beer as their new head of aerodynamics as the team continues their technical restructuring ahead of the 2017 season.

De Beer has held similar roles at Lotus/Renault and Ferrari, working alongside Mercedes bound Technical Director James Allison, as well as a short stint at Sauber. Like Allison he left Ferrari last summer, and will replace Jason Summerville at Williams who also departed last year.

He joins the team at a point of change, Pat Symonds who was their technical chief left the team at the end of last season with an announcement due shortly that former Mercedes director Paddy Lowe will joining the team.

Deputy Team Principal Claire Williams said, “We’re delighted to have someone with Dirk’s vast experience joining us.

“Having spent several years as a head of aerodynamics in Formula 1, his knowledge and technical expertise will undoubtedly be a great asset to the team in our continued push to restore Williams to the front of the grid.”
