Wehrlein sidelined for first test, Giovanazzi expected to sub

Pascal Wehrlein has been ruled out of driving for the first test in Barcelona next week, a month after a frightening looking crash at the Race of Champions in Miami.

The German announced on social media that a back injury will force him out of the first test in Barcelona, losing valuable track time to get used to the new cars with considerably more downforce than last season.

All winter drivers have been showing off images and videos online of them in training for the upcoming season, with Renault’s Jolyon Palmer revealing that he has bulked up four kilos to prepare for driving the 2017 car which will be more physical than previously. Any injury is going to be harder to carry.

Recently announced Ferrari reserve driver and GP2 2016 Vice Champion Antonio Giovanazzi is expected to drive for Sauber at the first test in the Germans place.
