Wehrlein given five place gearbox penalty

Manor’s Pascal Wherlein will have a five place grid penalty for this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix.

The German has changed his gearbox out of sequence, and will more than certainly start at the back of the grid after the change. Rules stipulate that a gearbox has to last for six consecutive events, unless there is a retirement, which is what Lewis Hamilton has taken advantage of this weekend after his engine failure in Malaysia.

Manor have been battling with SauberĀ at the bottom of the standings so far this weekend.
