Vettel crash curtails Pirelli testing at Fiorano

Wet weather tyre testing was brought to a premature close today after Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel crashed the modified version of the 2015 car.

The test, at Ferrari’s dedicated test track of Fiorano in Italy was artificially wet for the day, giving Pirelli the opportunity to test the wet weather tyres. Although it was attempted in Jerez during winter testing a couple of years ago, and has been more recently attempted at Paul Ricard there are few options for the tyre manufacturer to test the wets, outside of a race weekend.

Sebastian Vettel is said to have lost control of the Ferrari on an out lap, in extremely cold conditions which would have contributed towards the accident. Damage to the car meant that he wasn’t able to compete the day, in which Ferrari test driver Antonio Giovanazzi will take over tomorrow.
