The next hot seat…

With the news that Nico Hulkenberg is to move to Renault for 2017, the latest ‘hot seat’ on the market is at Force India, especially as they look to claim fourth in the World Championship this season.

That could make it an even better bet than Williams, that is of course even if there is a seat going at Williams. The news last week that Valtteri Bottas has entered talks with Renault over a seat for next season is already publically claiming as a ‘Plan B’, should his option not be taken at the Grove based team. They might not take it, given it is likely to include a large pay increase, which could be helped by Lance Stroll, who is expected to be announced as a 2017 driver after his 18th birthday in a couple of weeks time.

One name doing the rounds a lot is Felipe Nasr. He has money from Brazil, which could come in handy for a number of teams, but the suggestion is he is likely to stay for another season at Sauber alongside Marcus Ericsson. Some have placed him at Force India, yes, but given the current proceedings against the owners that doesn’t sit too nicely.

Another name could be Kevin Magnussen, the Danish media have said he is in talks to claim the seat at Force India, which would be a large step up from this season. The team have stated with the current line up of Perez and Hulkenberg that they went for talent over money, which would possibly be helpful for the Dane, even though he comes with a little money himself. Or of course, they could employ a Mercedes backed driver – either in the form of Pascal Wehrlein or Esteban Ocon, both making the jump from Manor.
