Test Preview – Tuesday 23 February

Well, it certainly was an interesting start to testing. Almost like it was a continuation of the 2015 season and by judging some of the ‘new’ 2016 cars, it could have been – if you had squinted a little.

It was Ferrari who took the first blood on the first day, not too dissimilar for 2015 when they were also quick around Jerez during the opening testing session. It was the Mercedes reliability though that shone through, leaving the pitlane at dead on 9am to open the start of testing.

Haas had the biggest problem of the day loosing it’s front wing on the front straight, with them not appearing for the rest of the day. A new front wing, with revised structural support will be available for the team to use today, but otherwise it has been a good debut for the all – American team.

It was also a good start to the test for Manor, who after a late start fitting parts only flown in the night before, also their first day testing for 18 months after their late start in 2015, in reality missing out Melbourne.

All eyes will be on the front running teams once again, with Mercedes and Ferrari looking the hot favourites for the title.
