Sergio Perez has effectively confirmed he is to stay at Force India for 2017, after confirming a statement by their Chief Operating Officer.
Although team owner Vijay Mallya announced that both their current drivers, Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez would be remaining at the team for 2017, question marks had been raised about Sergio Perez with the Mexican said to be looking at other teams including Renault, and Williams taking up his prospects for what we didn’t know at the time would be a vacant position left by Felipe Massa.
At Monza, Force India COO Otmar Szafnauer reconfirmed that both drivers would be remaining at the team for another, currently places above Williams in the Constructors Championship in fourth.
Sergio Perez didn’t deny what Otmar Szafauer said, confirming after qualifying, “I’ve been saying the last month or so that I’m very happy where I am,” he said. “I already make up my mind so I think what Otmar says is quite correct.”
His backers are said to have wanted him to be placed at a ‘works’ team, although that now looks to be on the back burner with a move to Renault less likely.
