Yes, those very rumours are doing the rounds again. After the last Grand Prix which saw Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg collide again heighten speculation a split could be on the cards.
How likely is that though, even the German press were suggesting before the race that Rosberg had already signed a deal for next season, at the very same time that Lewis Hamilton seemed on edge. Would he want to move though, he is currently leading the world championship with a decent lead over his team mate in the most competitive car and he would only be going to Ferrari as the number 2 – I really can’t see that happening.
The other side of the coin being the future of Fernando Alonso. After leaving Ferrari under somewhat of a cloud, the Spaniard has certainly been through the mill at McLaren. Uncompetive and two large accidents which have forced him out of races doesn’t look to have dampened his lust for racing though. Would he make the move to Mercedes to partner Lewis Hamilton for the second time in their careers, that didn’t exactly work out for the best last time.
There is no doubt that McLaren would love to see Stoffel Vandoorne in the car next season, and both Fernando and Jenson have said they would stay as long as they had a decent car, although that is really hard to say given the large changes in the 2017 regulations – for either it is going to be complete guesswork.
Apart from Red Bull which looks to be locked into their drivers, the 2017 driver market will be pushing into full force over the next few weeks and months.
