Ricciardo and Magnussen as expected get Renault upgrade

As expected from the Barcelona test, Daniel Ricciardo and Kevin Magnussen will get the upgraded Renault engine this weekend.

With only two power units on offer, one each as gone to the supplied teams – Red Bull who brand their engine as ‘Tag Heuer’ and the factory Renault team. Daniel Ricciardo will be getting the upgraded engine at Red Bull, while Kevin Magnussen gets the upgrade at Renault.

It has been suggested the upgrade, the first since last season is a significant boost and possibly up to half a second a lap which will help Red Bull in their battle with Ferrari and also help Renault further down the grid who have struggled the first portion of this season.

Only two power units are on offer as it wasn’t due to be brought in until the Canadian Grand Prix in two weeks time, but was expedited following a successful Barcelona test. Engine performance though isn’t so critical around the streets of Monaco.
