Renault targeting Hulkenberg, Bottas and Sainz for 2017

A report by German publication AMuS suggests that Renault are targeting a completely new driver line up for the 2017 season.

The team hired Kevin Magnussen at the last moment this season, following funding from former Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado failed to appear, alongside GP2 champion Jolyon Palmer. A disappointing car this season has left them at the back of the field battling with Sauber, Manor and Haas.

Renault are said to be looking for a team leading driver, initially thought to be Sergio Perez, but other names have appeared in the ring.

Having not confirmed his place at Williams next season, Valtteri Bottas is on their hitlist, along with Sergio Perez’s teammate Nico Hulkenberg. Carlos Sainz Jr openly admitted this week he was appreciative of Renault’s approached, but has confirmed his allegiance to Red Bull, so looks the most unlikely of the three.

Esteban Ocon has also been linked to a seat at the team, although he could also stay at Manor.
