Renault first ambition for Kevin Magnussen

Kevin Magnussen has claimed this morning that he has the desire to stay at Renault for next season and beyond, on the back of what has been a difficult first year back to the championship for the team.

Originally drafted in as a replacement for Pastor Maldonado at the start of the season, Kevin Magnussen has not had the most optimal machinery to work with this season given the funding problems of 2015 under the former guise of Lotus. Combined with returning back to the Renault engine for this season, it put the team behind and relegated to the back of the grid alongside Sauber and Manor. Of course, both of those teams in different cycles of rebuilding themselves.

The situation is bound to improve though with Red Bull showing that it is possible to win races with the Renault engine, and with the recent addition of Nico Hulkenberg as their ‘lead driver’ for at least the next two seasons. That second seat is going to be hotly contested with a number of drivers in the frame and not just Kevin Magnussen. Valtteri Bottas, Esteban Ocon along with Mangussen and teammate Palmer have all be talked about as possible options.

This morning Magnussen said on twitter:

The Dane has also been linked to a drive in the Indycar Championship with Andretti, but he has already stated his first preference is to drive at Renault.
