Renault have confirmed today they don’t plan to replace outgoing Team Principal Fredric Vasseur, with it being announced yesterday he would be leaving the team with immediate effect.
Talking at the Autosport International show in Birmingham, Renault Sport Managing Director Cryil Abiteboul confirmed that he wouldn’t be replaced at Enstone, with his responsibilities shared amongst the existing team.
The Renault boss said, “As far as I’m concerned we will not replace Fred in the capacity of team principal. We don’t feel shocked or weakened by the announcement. It was something that was discussed at length with Fred.
“We tried to make it work, but at some point in time, when it’s obvious that it doesn’t work, we have to make a decision and move on.
“If we feel we are weakened or held back by the fact we don’t have a team principal, we will take action, but I don’t think that is a necessity at this point in time.”
They will follow the general trend of not having a ‘distinct’ leader, instead having a specialist senior team at the head of the operation. Mercedes and McLaren have a similar operation concept of ‘specialists’.
