Force India have confirmed they are to retain their driver pairing for 2017, on the back of Ferrari confirming Kimi Raikkonen is to stay at Ferrari.
The news was confirmed by team owner, Vijay Mallya who made his first visit to a Grand Prix this season. He said to Autosport, “Sergio has signed for 2017, and we also have Nico [Hulkenberg] as well, as you know.
“Checo knows, and I know, we have a signed contract. I would not be saying it if it was not signed.
“It’s a signed contract, done several weeks ago.”
Along with the confirmation that Kimi Raikkonen is to stay at Ferrari next year, is stops the rumours connecting Sergio Perez to the team after a string of excellent performances from the Mexican. The strong form had seen him talked about as a replacement for the Finn, although it is now believed they are trying to court a big name driver for 2018.
It also means that Mercedes can’t move Pascal Wehrlein into a higher ranked team, with it looking likely he will remain at Manor.
