Pascal Wehrlein has been confirmed a Sauber driver for 2017, which could bring to a close the driver market for the year.
The former Manor driver and Mercedes protege had been expected to make the switch to Sauber before Christmas, but the announcement that Nico Rosberg was retiring meant that negotiations were put on ice in case the German was called up to the leading Mercedes team.
With Valtteri Bottas expected to take that seat instead, it has released Wehrlein back to Sauber.
The German had a good first season in the sport, with his first points paying position at the Austrian Grand Prix, although it wasn’t enough to get Manor the coveted tenth place in the constructors championship. He was also overlooked to the Force India seat, which instead went to former teammate Esteban Ocon.
