Mercedes make move for Bottas

Mercedes are said to have already made a move to hiring the services of Williams driver Valtteri Bottas.

The highly rated Finn, who was brought into the sport by Mercedes boss Toto Wolff when he owned part of Williams, is on the short list for Nico Rosberg’s seat at the team although current advances suggest it not going to be easy for either party.

Although it makes sense for Mercedes to hire Bottas, it would then leave Williams in a difficult position with rookie Lance Stroll. Yes, Mercedes could place Pascal Wehrlein at the team, but he comes with much less experience than Bottas does.

Whatever happens, it looks like Pascal Wehrlein will be moving from Manor next season, it just depends where. Other suggestions in the last couple of days have also suggested that Carlos Sainz Jr could be a candidate at Mercedes, which would open up a place on the grid for Pierre Gasly, the likely replacement at Toro Rosso.
