Lewis Hamilton will start from pitlane for Belgian GP

Lewis Hamilton will start from the pitlane after the team removed a seal from the gearbox.

Starting from the back of the grid anyway after a multiple engine change above the allocated five this year, Hamilton will start from the pitlane. It is the standard penalty for a driver to start from pitlane after a seal has been broken on the gearbox.

Given the tight nature of the La Source hairpin at the start of the race, it would mean the championship leader will be removed from the chance that he would get caught in an accident.

The statement from the FIA said: “As an FIA seal was removed from the gearbox of car 44, the competitor is required to start the race from the Pit Lane and should follow the procedures laid out in Article 28.8 of the FIA Formula 1 Sporting Regulations.”
