Ears were pricked up by an interview in which Pierre Gasly indicated he would be driving for Toro Rosso in Singapore before the race, but such a move has been talked down by Helmut Marko.
Gasly was talking to Spanish TV station Movistar, in which he said he would be driving the Toro Rosso car in Singapore, only repeating what he was told by Renault.
Such a move was completely blocked by Red Bull driver boss Dr Helmut Marko, who not only confirmed that Daniil Kvyat would keep his seat until the end of the season, but also confirmed that Pierre Gasly wouldn’t have any Friday Free Practice drives either, but didn’t rule out the Frenchman helping with simulation work.
Gasly is seen as the natural successor to Daniil Kvyat, currently a leading driver in the GP2 championship, and has a momentum worthy of heading to Formula One. While bosses are talking up the hopes of Daniil Kvyat, it is not inconceivable that the Frenchman will be in the team next season alongside Carlos Sainz Jr.
