Italian Grand Prix to stay at Monza until 2019

Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed at Monza that the race is to stay at the circuit until at least 2019.

As we have seen at a number of European races, the race has been under threat, with a number of alternative Italian race tracks clambering to take over the mantle of the race, with Imola the most vocal and ready. With negotiations taking months, Ecclestone confirmed the race would stay at Monza though with a new three year deal which is yet to be signed.

“The contract is here for three years, but I hope we’re here for another 100 years,” Ecclestone said during a press conference held at the circuit.

“We are getting all of the small details that are important in a contract together, and we will sign this back in England.”

A leak by Italian officials had already reached social media earlier in the week, this announcement therefore had been expected.
