Former GP2 winner Rio Haryanto has been confirmed as the second driver at Manor Racing this season.
The Indonesian will join highly rated German Pascal Wehrlein at the British team and has now taken the final place on the grid, just a few days before the first test is due to start in Barcelona.
Coming with backing from his homeland in Indonesia, Haryanto has had four seasons in GP2, with a best championship position of fourth last season for Campos.
It won’t be the first time he has been in a Formula One car though, and is well known to Manor having tested for them when they were then known as Virgin.
In a statement published on Facebook this morning, Haryanto said, “Manor Racing is a team with an exciting vision and ambitious plans. They have produced a great package and I can’t wait to get in the car.
“Melbourne will be a huge moment for me, my country, supporters and fans and I want to thank everyone who’s been with me since I started in single seaters; 2016 is my chance to reward that faith and represent Asia in F1.”
The team have confirmed he will be at the Barcelona test next week, ahead of the first Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 20th and will race with the number 88.
