Who would have thought we would have seen a bright pink car this season? The new Force India scheme is certainly bright and bold, but will the new 2017 aero regulations work into the teams favour following an extremely impressive 2016.
Force India were really the surprise of last season, beating Williams to fourth in the Constructors Championship, only behind the top three of Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari. Sergio Perez had some great form, including some unexpected podium finishes, with the team since admitting they didn’t develop the car through the season in order to concentre on 2017.
Testing has been a little bit disappointing for the team, eclipsed by both Williams and Toro Rosso at times. That isn’t to say the team can’t come back at these teams later in the season, they have proven that they can do this in the past, even with a large regulation change.
Despite the financial situation following boss Vijay Mallya following the collapse of his Indian airline Kingfisher, the team is good on a good financial footing, just signing a major new sponsorship deal with BWT, and the distinctive new pink colourscheme.
Sergio Perez remains, although he was touted as a possible option for Renault, also alongside Esteban Ocon. The two found themselves at Force India though, with Perez coming off the back of one of his most impressive seasons to date and one in which his form will helped to continue through to 2017.
The appointment of Mercedes backed Esteban Ocon was said to be a straight duel between him and his former teammate Pascal Werhlein, both of whom have spent time at the Silverstone based team. Ocon was the winner, with Wehrlein facing another possible season at the back of the field at Sauber.
