Ferrari have unveiled their 2017 car this morning at an event in Fiorano, their home test facility, joining Force India, Renault, Sauber and Mercedes in a week of car launches.
Once again, Ferrari have the experienced duo of four time World Champion Sebastian Vettel, and the last driver to win a Drivers World Championship for Ferrari – Kimi Raikkonen.
After a season of promise, but yet disappointment in 2016, Ferrari are hoping that the new regulation changes in 2017 will help their progression towards the front of the grid. After nearly winning in the opening race in Australia, which was scuppered by a poor strategy decision, the team eventually fell behind Red Bull after their impressive wins in Barcelona and Sepang. The last win for the Ferrari team was in Singapore 2015, 18 months ago, and repeated another winless season. A change in leadership in the technical department following the departure of James Allison was also implemented.
The new SF70H like all of the new cars has some interesting aero decisions. It features the sea-gull wing first demoed on the Mercedes yesterday at Silverstone – this time connected to the shark fin (painted white, when most expected an all red car), and high, wide and thin sidepod inlets.
