Ferrari have been given a fine for the unsafe release of Kimi Raikkonen in Austin, which ultimately meant the retirement of the former World Champion.
The team were given a €5000 fine for releasing Kimi Raikkonen, despite the right rear wheel not being attached. By the time it has been communicated to the Finn he had already left the pitlane as was halfway up the hill to the first corner, where he stopped and rolled backwards into the pitlane after turning his engine off.
A notification from the stewards confirmed the penalty, “The competitor (Scuderia Ferrari) is fined €5,000.”
“The car was released before all the mechanics had finished fitting all wheels correctly, as the car was not classified a fine is imposed.”
Kimi Raikkonen had managed to just stay with the Red Bull drivers, before he was put on a three stop strategy and dropped back.
