Renault reserve driver Esteban Ocon will have the chance to drive in Free Practice at a number of Grand Prix this season.
According to Autosport, he will combine a season driving in the German Touring Car series DTM with work for the Renault team, including free practice and inseason testing. Although now a Mercedes backed driver, he has been loaned out to Renault this season, while competing for Mercedes in the DTM.
Last season now current race driver Jolyon Palmer had the opportunity to drive the car in a number of FP1 sessions throughout the season, although didn’t race in another series at the same time.
It has been a familiar career path for Mercedes to train their young drivers through DTM, with current champion Pascal Wehrlein now moving to the Manor team for 2016. Former drivers including Paul di Resta have also made the switch in the past.
