Bottas linked to Renault seat

Although Renault have endured a difficult season, a number of high profile drivers have been linked to the team for the 2017 season with more rumours swirling around about drivers linked to the team.

Valtteri Bottas is the latest added to the list, with the Finn said to have entered talks with the team according to Autosport. Although Bottas has an option to stay at Williams for next season, that is said to include a large price increase for the team, even though they are expected to announce F3 champion Lance Stroll to replace the retiring Felipe Massa.

The situation at Renault is less clear. Sergio Perez turned down Renault to stay at Force India for another season with the hope he might be considered for the second Ferrari seat in 2018, although that looks less of an exciting option this year. His Force India teammate Nico Hulkenberg has been hotly tipped to making the move to Renault though, which would leave an opening at Force India. Although approached, it is looking less likely Renault will buy Carlos Sainz out of his contract, with Red Bull eager to keep the Spaniard whom many believe to be as good as highly rated Max Verstappen.

An opening at Force India would mean as possible promotion for either Pascal Wehrlein or Esteban Ocon, the Frenchman who until recently had been linked to Renault himself.

There is of course the option that Renault will go for talent and hire a combination of Hulkenberg and Bottas in order to kickstart their rebuild, or of course retain either of the current drivers Kevin Magnussen or Jolyon Palmer.
