Alonso uninjured from dramatic crash with Gutierrez

Fernando Alonso walked away uninjured from a large accident with Haas’s Esteban Gutierrez which brought out the red flag on lap 19.

The pair tangled on the run down to turn 3, with the McLaren driver braking later than the Haas. Having clipped the Hass with his right front, he pitched to the left knocking off the other side of the car in the process.

Heading towards the gravel trap, the car was then pitched into a rotation, flipping the car upside down and coming to rest at the end of the gravel. The Spaniard was able to get out unaided, while Gutierrez spun and ended up in the gravel with a broken rear of the car.

It caused a red flag as the debris at turn 3 was cleared up, and the wreckage from accident recovered.

The pair would go to the stewards, despite Alonso believing that nobody was to blame for the crash.
