Alonso to test upgraded engine, which includes penalties

Fernando Alonso will be using a new and upgraded Honda engine for this weekend, which gives him a grid penalty to start at the back of the field.

The McLaren driver has already taken used his allocation of engines, and the extra engine to be added this weekend with Honda using two of the three tokens for the upgrade. As per the rules this season, changing all the elements of the engine mean that the Spaniard will start at the back of the grid.

With Honda already committing itself to providing an upgrade in the final races of the season, it has been introduced in Malaysia as to avoid a grid drop at their home race in Japan next week, something which Red Bull had to do last season as part of the souring of relationship between the pair.
